Health and Wellness

The holiday break is a welcome respite for students, offering them time to unwind and recharge.  However, this break doesn’t have to be all about relaxation. With a little planning, students can make the most of their time off by focusing on activities that enrich their minds, build new skills, and set them up for success in the future. Using this time productively can help students stay motivated, prepare for upcoming challenges, and develop habits that will serve them well in the long run.  Below are some ways in which our students can spend some time being productive!

Strengthen Academic Skills:

One effective way to spend the holiday break is by strengthening academic skills. While students deserve a break from intense schoolwork, dedicating even a small amount of time to review class materials or get ahead can make a significant difference when school resumes. Reading books related to upcoming subjects, watching educational videos, or even revisiting old notes can reinforce concepts and keep minds sharp.

Explore Future Goals:

Students can also use the break to explore future goals. Upper school students, for instance, can research colleges, careers, and internships, while lower school students might begin to think about what subjects or extracurricular activities they want to pursue in the future.

Personal Growth:

The holiday break also offers ample time for personal growth. Students might pick up new hobbies, learn a new language, or explore creative skills like photography or writing. With so many online platforms offering free courses or tutorials, it’s easy to learn something new from the comfort of home.

Volunteering:

Volunteering is another great way to spend free time, as it teaches students valuable life skills, such as empathy, leadership, and teamwork. Volunteering also makes a positive impact on the community and helps students build a strong sense of purpose and social responsibility.

Stay Active:

Finally, students should also prioritize their health by staying active. Whether it's through sports, yoga, workouts or simple outdoor walks, physical exercise can improve both mental clarity and overall well-being, making it easier to transition back into the school routine come January 6th 2025!

Community Service Opportunities

We're Still Collecting for the

Canned Food Drive!

You have until Wednesday, December 18th, to donate canned foods for The Foodbank. If you haven’t done so already, we are kindly asking each student to contribute 3 to 5 cans of nutritious canned food. Healthy options, such as canned soup and beans, canned fruits and vegetables, rice, pasta, peanut butter, and canned meat and fish. Do not bring any unsafe or unhealthy food items, such as expired products, leftovers, unlabeled food, ramen noodles, boxed mac and cheese, baked goods, refrigerated items, candy, glass containers, sugary drinks, opened packages, or medications.

Check your pantry to see if you have any canned goods you can spare. If you don’t have items at home or need to get more, visit a grocery store and pick up healthy, shelf-stable foods to donate. Thank you for helping make this food drive a success! Your contribution will make a big difference in the community.

If you haven’t had a chance yet, make sure you see a Student Senate Representative to sign-up for a volunteer opportunity!

Anacapa Annual Fund

Support Our Annual Fund on Giving Tuesday!

Thanks to your incredible support, we have now raised $26,175 toward our $75,000 goal. We are so grateful for your generosity, but there is still work to do!

We still need to raise $1,080 in smaller donations to unlock the $5,000 that was pledged by an Anacapa family last month. This means that every dollar donated before the end of the year will be doubled, up to $5,000! Your contribution, no matter the size, can have twice the impact.

Every gift, no matter the size—whether it’s $5, $50, or $500—makes a difference. We’re aiming for 100% participation in the Annual Fund, and currently, about 40% of our families have contributed. Let’s unite as a community to demonstrate our shared support for Anacapa. Consider making your contribution today through our website’s donation page or by sending a check to the school.

In addition to individual contributions, we are actively seeking business sponsorships to help us reach our goal. If you or someone you know may be interested in becoming a sponsor, please refer to the flyer below for more details.

Thank you once again for your ongoing support and generosity. Together, we can achieve our goals and continue to strengthen the Anacapa community!
